Very well know for tiger safaris Kanha is slowly becoming a hot birding destination in India. The park has an area of approximately two thousand square kilometer and i situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India. In my opinion it is the best park to visit on a tiger safari and wildlife watching trip.
On my recent trip in winters I could sight some exciting birds near the
hotel in Kanha where i was staying. The hotel is surrounded by lush green tropical forests. This makes it a wonderful habitat for birds. Standing near the edge of the forest I could see Orioles, flyctachers like Ultramarine and Red Breasted fycatcher, Iora, Racket tailed drongos, flower peckers, purple sunbird, gold fronted chloropsis and many more.
The core area of the park is home to plaenty of birds like grey francolin, paradise flycatcher, Indian scimitar babbler and white rumped shama. The most visible raptos are Honey buzzard, White eyed buzzard, Crested serpent eagle and Crested hawk eagle.
The best time to visit Kanha National Park in India on
birding trip is winters when visitors come. The migrants such as warblers, flycatchers and ducks increase the number of birds to be seen. There are more than two hundred and sixty bird species to be seen in the tiger reserve.
